A crown completely covers the tooth being repaired, which can help hold a tooth together and results in a strong repair. Crowns are made away from the mouth, in our dental lab. This allows them to be made from different materials than can be used in the mouth.
As a result they can be made to be stronger than other fillings, or when aesthetics are concerned, more detailed than a normal filling.
When making a crown, your dentist will shape the remaining tooth to allow a crown to be placed on top. They will then take moulds (impressions) of the tooth so that our dental lab can create a crown. A second appointment is required to fix the crown in place with dental cement.
Ceramic Crowns
Ceramic crowns are tooth coloured and extremely strong. They blend in well with natural teeth and are suitable in most situations. They are made from Lithium Disilicate or Zirconia.
They are highly aesthetic and very strong. These are manufactured in our laboratory using state of the art CAD CAM milling technology.
